Common Management Admission Test – CMAT

CMAT exam 2021 is a national level entrance examination for entry into management programmes. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducted the CMAT exam every year till 2018 as per the directions of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The Test will now be conducted by the National Testing Agency-NTA. CMAT exam 2020 The CMAT is a three-hour computer-based online test that is conducted in a single session to evaluate the candidate’s ability across various segments like Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness.

CMAT exam 2020 Several  B schools in India use CMAT scores every year for shortlisting candidates. Around 70000 students appear for the CMAT exam every year and there are more than 500 partner institutes that accept the CMAT score.

Eligibility for the Common Management Admission Test –CMAT 2021

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before commencement of admission for the next academic year can also apply for CMAT- computer-based test (CBT).

The candidate must be a citizen of India.

There is no age restriction for appearing in CMAT-2020.

Test Pattern of the Common Management Admission Test –CMAT 2021 Exam

The CMAT exam is conducted in English medium only. The candidate is assessed across 4 sections

  • Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Language Comprehension
  • General awareness

Common Management Admission Test – CMAT – Structure
  • Each Question carries +4 marks. A candidate getting a correct answer will get 4 marks for that question
  • For each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted for that question
  • Candidates should not carry Instrument/ Geometry/ Pencil box, Handbag, Purse, Any kind of Paper/ Stationery/ Textual material (printed or written material), Eatables and Water (loose or packed), Mobile Phone/ Ear Phone/ Microphone/ Pager, Calculator, Camera, Tape Recorder, any metallic item or electronic gadgets etc. in the Examination Room/Hall.

Syllabus of the Common Management Admission Test –CMAT

The CMAT exam does not define any syllabus. However, we have seen the following topics appearing regularly in the exam.

Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation:

Percentage, Profit-loss,  Simple interest & Compound Interest, Time-calendar, Sets, Number System, Algebra, Geometry, Quadratic & Linear Equations, Alligations & Mixtures, Probability, Permutations & Combinations, Averages, Time-Speed-Distance, Work & Time, Mensuration.

Logical Reasoning

Assertion-Reasoning, Inferences, Critical reasoning, Assumption-Premise, Conclusion, True and False Statements, Linear arrangements, Sequences and series, Strong – Weak arguments, Statements and assumptions, Series, Coding and decoding, Cause and effect, Statement –Conclusion, Symbol-based problems, Blood relationship.

Language Comprehension

Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Sentence Correction, Sentence Rearrangement, Antonyms – Synonyms, Paragraph Completion, English Usage Errors, One Word Substitution.

General Knowledge

History, Indian Constitution, Culture, Geography, Economy and Business, Science & Technology, Books, Prizes, International Affairs, Current Affairs, Persons in, News, Sports etc.

Score of the CMAT Exam

NTA will provide the scores of each candidate within a reasonable time after someone has taken the CMAT exam. In case there is a tie in the scores of candidates, the following rules apply.

In case scores are the same for more than one candidate, the ranking will be done on sectional scores considered in the order of –

  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language
  • Comprehension, General Awareness.
  • Candidates having less negative responses in the paper.
  • Candidates older in age.
